This is a good identity to have, because ford trucks continue to have an outstanding reputation for utility, reliability and durability. both the long and regular-length versions of the expedition use many of the components from the ford f-150 pickup. However, the expedition features independent rear suspension, which improves driving precision, ride comfort, and rear-seat roominess. this third-generation expedition features a three-bar grille, large headlights, and a domed hood that combine to deliver a look that's both distinctive and respectable. There are several different wheel designs, including 20-inchers with a chrome finish. expedition el models stretch the wheelbase to 131 inches. Overall, the el measures 14. 8 inches longer than the standard expedition, and that adds 22 cubic feet of cargo volume. As a result, crowded parking lots can be challenging. The expedition has a turning circle of nearly 41 feet, while the el requires 44 feet. they're also heavy, as even the base 2wd expedition weighs almost 6,000 pounds, and a loaded el with 4wd will be comfortably over that. the king ranch model can be identified by its gold exterior accents and unique wheel design. the expedition comes with running boards as standard equipment. Power retractable running boards that deploy when the doors are opened are optional. Some prefer no running boards, but that doesn't appear to be an option. interiorthe ford expedition features a rich blend of finishes, textures and color. Indeed, a king ranch is the best representation of modern american-style luxury within ford's lineup. Wood, chrome and leather make the expedition an inviting place to spend a day on the road. Generous driver's-seat travel helps accommodate taller drivers, and it's a perfect match for the expedition's movable pedals, so a wide range of sizes of drivers can sit comfortably. the second seating row reflects ford's thoughtful approach to passenger comfort: the standard 40/20/40 bench seat incorporates a center section that slides, bringing a child seat within easier reach of front-seat passengers. Optional second-row captain's chairs with a center-aisle pass-through can be substituted for adult-rated comfort. packaging advantages afforded by the expedition's independent rear suspension enable the third-row seat to deliver more comfort for adults compared to the accommodations provided by the chevy tahoe. In fact, third-row room is among the best of any suv, though three adults won't want to sit in the back for long. The high ride height also makes getting in and out a task for children. the expedition's liftgate with its flip-up glass hatch makes access to the cargo area very easy. The expedition's second- and third-row bench-type seats fold flat into the cargo floor, affording a long cargo area that can be easily loaded. In this regard, the expedition is much better designed than gm's large suvs. The expedition is also available with an optional power-folding third-row seat and electronically powered liftgate to make it even easier to load cargo. However, the seat cushions of the second- and third-row seats are a little slim in order to allow the seats to fold properly. the expedition is about more than convenience. New, more refined and more capable. introductionthe 2008 ford super duty pickups feature new styling inside and out along with a re-engineered suspension that delivers a smoother ride. A new diesel engine and a new f-450 pickup are designed to handle the needs of ever-increasing agricultural, boat, and rv trailer weights. Other revisions and refinements are designed to address customer comment and stricter emissions standards. two words can define the 2008 super duty relative to the previous iteration: refined and more. With realistic expectations, any faults will seem minute when compared to the ability to plow a big parking lot, carry a small car or tow a small house. the 2008 super duty is not an all-new truck. Some body panels, engines and transmissions continue. But many aspects more substantial than the front-end styling have changed. It has a new interior in five different flavors from hose-out to leather lux, a new diesel engine, more added features, and should cost less based on equipment than the outgoing model. and in a first for any major pickup manufacturer ford has added a medium-duty pickup, the f-450, to the line. The super duty line can haul from one ton to three. It can tow from three tons to more than twelve. It can carry three to six real-world people with room to spare. And the door pockets, glovebox, and console will hold more stuff than some sports cars' trunks. Almost every permutation is built. Exceptions: the king ranch version is offered only on crew cabs, the f-450 is long-bed crew cab only, and the fx4 trim is not offered on 2wd, any f-450, or with a regular cab. a 5. 4-liter v8 with 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque is standard on all models up to the f-350 crew cab drw, which has the 362-hp, 457 lb-ft 6. 8-liter v10 standard. Both the v10 and 6. 4-liter diesel (350 hp, 650 lb-ft) are optional across the f-250/f-350 spectrum, but the diesel is the only engine offered on f-450. A six-speed manual is standard, a five-speed automatic available. the base xl is commercial in nature, with vinyl seats and flooring, black painted grille and bumpers, plain trim, am/fm stereo, and a weight-appropriate receiver hitch. Options include mechanical upgrades (engine, limited-slip differential, larger tires, traction control, camper package, off-road package for 4wd, tow command, etc.), air conditioning, auxiliary switches, reverse sensors, and a tailgate step. xlt trim adds chrome trim and wheels, 40/20/40 cloth front seat, carpet, ac, cd player, power windows/locks/mirrors, tilt wheel and cruise control. Options include aluminum wheels, captain's chairs w/power and heat, audiophile sound system, adjustable pedals, sport trim package, moonroof, and rear-seat dvd entertainment. the fx4 off-road model adds 18-inch wheels and lt275/70r18 all-terrain tires, standard limited-slip, skid plates, fog lamps, security system, overhead console, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Options include 20-inch wheels, navigation/audiophile system, sirius radio, and power telescope/fold heated dual-element towing mirrors. lariat trim (n/a on regular cabs) adds polished wheels, leather power seats, dual-zone climate control, trip computer, redundant sound/climate controls on wheel, woodgrain trim, illuminated visor mirrors, privacy glass and a sliding rear window. Dimensions are easily given in yards rather than inches. The color of the side vent gives away if it is gasoline or diesel-powered. given its fender flares and dark snout, the fx4 is the most aggressive trim style, though no super duty would be mistaken for anything less than a full-size pickup even with nothing scalable within sight. New towing mirrors include signal repeaters that won't distract the driver; they telescope and fold (manual or powered), and include two large reflective elements for safe rear vision with the widest street-legal trailers. an optional tailgate step pops a 16. 7 x 4. 5-inch step with a half-ton load rating out of the tailgate and raises a grab handle rated at 300 pounds to make the climb safer. It also includes an assist so the very heavy tailgate feels less heavy. The handle makes bed access easier but may need to be lowered again to slide a load in, and removing the gate, as is often the case with some trailers, may become a two-person chore. interiorwith three-and-a-half feet of headroom and just shy of six feet of shoulder room, the ford super duty cab is massive. Materials are job appropriate: no carpet mats for commercial or trail duty, and appear well assembled. The king ranch version brings a little lincoln to a pickup while the base model could be cleaned out with a bucket of warm water. On upper-end models, the gear-cog-like chrome surrounds for vents and gauges can create some unwelcome reflections, and the number of textures and colors (we counted up to eight) may be too much for design minimalists. the interior has been restyled for 2008. The dash is now segmented in three smaller parts for a more manageable look. The center stack houses a pair of large vents, radio and navigation top center where easily viewed, climate control, and most switchgear. Side steps are available. We noted a marked reduction in wind/cab noise around the center pillar in the supercab, and the better sealing means that big front door requires a solid yank to close with all windows up. The short shifter for the automatic is less effort but more precise than before. The headlights can be turned off for good neighborly night-time entries to campgrounds or drive-ins. the ventilation system is capable of cooling or heating the cavernous volume and keeping forward windows and mirrors clear, and seat heaters are very effective; a supplemental cab heater is available for diesel models. the navigation system is fairly intuitive and will be familiar to ford family drivers. ford's tow command integrated trailer brake system is easy to set up and provides better, smoother trailer braking control than any aftermarket controller.

The f-250 is a three-quarter ton version, full-size pickup truck. It comes in three trims: xl, xlt, and lariat. Optional wheelbases go from 137-inches to 172. 4-inches. Three engine options are available: 300 hp 5. 4-liter triton v-8; 362 hp 6. 8-liter v-10; and 325 hp power stroke 6. 0-liter turbo-diesel v-8. They are all controlled by a standard six-speed manual transmission, and a five-speed automatic is optional. For 2006, the ford f-250 sees minimal changes.

Redesigned chassis improves ride, capability. introductionthe ford super duty pickups benefit from a major chassis design for 2005 that improves ride quality, handling and maneuverability. Payload capacities and towing capability have been improved. Towing is greatly enhanced by a new integrated electric brake control. Not only is it elegantly designed right into the instrument panel, but it operates much better than aftermarket controllers, making it easier to modulate the brakes for smooth, accurate stops. fresh styling gives the 2005 ford super duty pickups a more masculine, big-rig appearance. Inspired by ford's tonka truck concept, the new super duty trucks look like they're ready to get some serious work done. Payload capacities of up to 5800 pounds are available in the 2005 super duty trucks, with tow ratings of up to 17,000 pounds. The ford f-250 super duty competes with the dodge ram 2500, chevrolet silverado 2500, and gmc sierra 2500. The f-350, with its available dual rear wheels, competes against the 3500-series models from gm and dodge. None of these, however, match the super duty's top payload and towing capacities. the 2005 super duty pickups continue to feature first-class powertrains. Both of the v8 gas engines are upgraded for 2005. The standard 5. 4-liter v8 is now based on ford's modular v8 architecture and incorporates three valves per cylinder for better breathing, improved power delivery and cleaner exhaust. The 6. 8-liter v10 also gets the modular-based, three-valve cylinder heads, giving it class-leading horsepower and torque. The v10 and 6. 0-liter turbo-diesel now have electronic throttle control, expanding their utility in accessory applications. styling revisions for 2005 include a bolder, almost brutish front end and broader flanks. The frame is stronger, now boasting a fully boxed front section and thicker walls in high-stress areas. A reconfigured rear suspension improves the ride and load balance, and a new front suspension sharpens steering response and significantly tightens the turning circle. the new super duty interiors feature increased use of higher grade materials, better assembly quality and more people-oriented amenities make for surprisingly comfortable accommodations, especially in the up-level trims. We love the king ranch edition, swathed in rich cow hides that looks like they came right out of the tack room. lineupford super duty is offered in more configurations than we can count. All can pull heavy loads and are more truck than most consumers will ever need. Wheelbase lengths vary by body style: 137 inches for a regular cab, 142 inches for a supercab short-bed, 158 inches for a supercab long-bed, 156 inches for a crew cab short-bed, and 172 inches for crew cab long-bed. all f-250 models come with single rear wheels. F-350 models are available with single rear wheels (srw) or dual rear wheels (drw). The latter, often called 'dualies,' are great for towing as they offer higher tongue-weight ratings, although they do give up an almost meaningless 300 pounds to the srw models in fifth wheel/goose neck maximum towing capacity. the base engine across the line is the new, 24-valve, 5. 4-liter v8. The 6. 8-liter v10 is optional on all models 600), as is the 6. 0-liter diesel v8 5,100). Xl models are pretty basic, with only a two-speaker, am/fm stereo and fixed-interval wipers. Air conditioning 850) is optional, as are a cd stereo 275) and seat upgrades, including a vinyl split bench 400) and cloth buckets 390). Xlt models are equipped more like the average passenger car, with air conditioning and more stereo choices. Lariats come with automatic air conditioning, an overhead console, leather seats with six-way power, and aluminum wheels. Power telescoping trailer mirrors are available on xlt 220) and standard on lariat and king ranch; they feature heated glass and integral turn signal repeaters. Manually telescoping mirrors are available 125) on xl. A power sliding rear cab window is available on the lariat 185). A sport package 1,085) for xlt supercabs and crew cabs adds chromed tubular step bars; body-color grille, bumpers, and door handles; sliding rear cab window; fog lamps; privacy glass; an exclusive two-tone cloth 40/20/40 split-bench front seat and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Other options include a moonroof 995), adjustable pedals 120), cruise control/tilt steering column 385), roof marker lights 55), and running boards. the towcommand package on the xl 330) includes the manually telescoping mirrors. On the xlt and lariat, towcommand adds the integrated trailer brake controller and heat to the telescoping mirrors 425). The integrated trailer brake controller is also available as a stand-alone across the line 205), as are upfitter switches 60). Also, towcommand requires the automatic transmission. the fx4 off-road package 225) adds skid plates and rancho shock absorbers; the steering damper. walkaroundford bestowed on the 2004 f-150 much of the brawny, no-nonsense look we liked about the previous generation of the company's f-250 and f-350 pickups. This meant the 2005 super duty line had to have its own spruced up, new look. The lower front fascia is beefier, too, adding to the impression of mass in motion. otherwise, the styling of the 2005 models doesn't differ much from the 2004s. The cab's dropped sill line gives it a sense of openness and accessibility. It also makes climbing in easier, a welcome feature when juggling tools, briefcases, or even toddlers. A distinctive dip along the front door side glass improves the driver's view of the exterior mirrors, a big help when towing a trailer or for seeing around cargo boxes or dump-truck bodies. A locking tailgate is standard. king ranch crew cabs are dressed up with body-color mirror housings and door handles and distinctive two-tone paint selections, lighted running boards and special king ranch aluminum wheels. The harley-davidson specials sport a unique, tautly meshed grille; color choices consist of black, black and orange, and black and gray; factory-applied flame graphics are a new option 675). the tow hitch receiver has been increased from 2 inches to 2 1/2 inches for increased towing capacity. interiorford super duty trucks are very roomy, with comfortable, spacious seats and plenty of hip and shoulder room. truck owners spend a lot of time in their vehicles, so ford's interior designers paid a lot of attention to comfort and convenience. The standard interior features a fold-down armrest, a floor console that can accommodate a laptop, and a removable hanging storage bin that can attach to the dash. Even the standard bench seats recline. Two large cupholders are provided. The standard cigar lighter is augmented with a second auxiliary power outlet conveniently mounted up in the dash to the right of the climate control switches. controls are big and easy to reach and manipulate. The instrument array is new, with large, round speedometer and tachometer, bracketed by oil pressure and fuel level gauges to the left and transmission temperature (on trucks with automatics) and coolant temperature gauges to the right. Optional power-adjustable pedals 120) are helpful for short-stature drivers (many women, for example), allowing them to sit a safer distance from the airbag in the steering wheel. switches for the optional trailer brake controller and towcommand are integrated into the lower dash beneath the drive-selector knob and stereo control panel, much nicer than attaching a controller with velcro or duct tape.
