New, more refined and more capable. introductionthe 2008 ford super duty pickups feature new styling inside and out along with a re-engineered suspension that delivers a smoother ride. A new diesel engine and a new f-450 pickup are designed to handle the needs of ever-increasing agricultural, boat, and rv trailer weights. Other revisions and refinements are designed to address customer comment and stricter emissions standards. two words can define the 2008 super duty relative to the previous iteration: refined and more. With realistic expectations, any faults will seem minute when compared to the ability to plow a big parking lot, carry a small car or tow a small house. the 2008 super duty is not an all-new truck. Some body panels, engines and transmissions continue. But many aspects more substantial than the front-end styling have changed. It has a new interior in five different flavors from hose-out to leather lux, a new diesel engine, more added features, and should cost less based on equipment than the outgoing model. and in a first for any major pickup manufacturer ford has added a medium-duty pickup, the f-450, to the line. The super duty line can haul from one ton to three. It can tow from three tons to more than twelve. It can carry three to six real-world people with room to spare. And the door pockets, glovebox, and console will hold more stuff than some sports cars' trunks. Almost every permutation is built. Exceptions: the king ranch version is offered only on crew cabs, the f-450 is long-bed crew cab only, and the fx4 trim is not offered on 2wd, any f-450, or with a regular cab. a 5. 4-liter v8 with 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque is standard on all models up to the f-350 crew cab drw, which has the 362-hp, 457 lb-ft 6. 8-liter v10 standard. Both the v10 and 6. 4-liter diesel (350 hp, 650 lb-ft) are optional across the f-250/f-350 spectrum, but the diesel is the only engine offered on f-450. A six-speed manual is standard, a five-speed automatic available. the base xl is commercial in nature, with vinyl seats and flooring, black painted grille and bumpers, plain trim, am/fm stereo, and a weight-appropriate receiver hitch. Options include mechanical upgrades (engine, limited-slip differential, larger tires, traction control, camper package, off-road package for 4wd, tow command, etc.), air conditioning, auxiliary switches, reverse sensors, and a tailgate step. xlt trim adds chrome trim and wheels, 40/20/40 cloth front seat, carpet, ac, cd player, power windows/locks/mirrors, tilt wheel and cruise control. Options include aluminum wheels, captain's chairs w/power and heat, audiophile sound system, adjustable pedals, sport trim package, moonroof, and rear-seat dvd entertainment. the fx4 off-road model adds 18-inch wheels and lt275/70r18 all-terrain tires, standard limited-slip, skid plates, fog lamps, security system, overhead console, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Options include 20-inch wheels, navigation/audiophile system, sirius radio, and power telescope/fold heated dual-element towing mirrors. lariat trim (n/a on regular cabs) adds polished wheels, leather power seats, dual-zone climate control, trip computer, redundant sound/climate controls on wheel, woodgrain trim, illuminated visor mirrors, privacy glass and a sliding rear window. Dimensions are easily given in yards rather than inches. The color of the side vent gives away if it is gasoline or diesel-powered. given its fender flares and dark snout, the fx4 is the most aggressive trim style, though no super duty would be mistaken for anything less than a full-size pickup even with nothing scalable within sight. New towing mirrors include signal repeaters that won't distract the driver; they telescope and fold (manual or powered), and include two large reflective elements for safe rear vision with the widest street-legal trailers. an optional tailgate step pops a 16. 7 x 4. 5-inch step with a half-ton load rating out of the tailgate and raises a grab handle rated at 300 pounds to make the climb safer. It also includes an assist so the very heavy tailgate feels less heavy. The handle makes bed access easier but may need to be lowered again to slide a load in, and removing the gate, as is often the case with some trailers, may become a two-person chore. interiorwith three-and-a-half feet of headroom and just shy of six feet of shoulder room, the ford super duty cab is massive. Materials are job appropriate: no carpet mats for commercial or trail duty, and appear well assembled. The king ranch version brings a little lincoln to a pickup while the base model could be cleaned out with a bucket of warm water. On upper-end models, the gear-cog-like chrome surrounds for vents and gauges can create some unwelcome reflections, and the number of textures and colors (we counted up to eight) may be too much for design minimalists. the interior has been restyled for 2008. The dash is now segmented in three smaller parts for a more manageable look. The center stack houses a pair of large vents, radio and navigation top center where easily viewed, climate control, and most switchgear. Side steps are available. We noted a marked reduction in wind/cab noise around the center pillar in the supercab, and the better sealing means that big front door requires a solid yank to close with all windows up. The short shifter for the automatic is less effort but more precise than before. The headlights can be turned off for good neighborly night-time entries to campgrounds or drive-ins. the ventilation system is capable of cooling or heating the cavernous volume and keeping forward windows and mirrors clear, and seat heaters are very effective; a supplemental cab heater is available for diesel models. the navigation system is fairly intuitive and will be familiar to ford family drivers. ford's tow command integrated trailer brake system is easy to set up and provides better, smoother trailer braking control than any aftermarket controller.

Updated inside and out, tuned for smoother ride. introductionbuick enclave is battling big-name competition; acura, volvo, audi, lincoln, and mercedes-benz all want the lead in the prestigious three-row luxury crossover segment. Yet the handsome, comfortable and efficient buick enclave effortlessly dominates this class in terms of sales. Embellished with elegant ice-blue ambient lighting, brightly colored new climate controls and real upholstery stitching lends the driving compartment a feeling of premium quality. And for the technologically acute, the new buick intellilink system supports audio streaming of pandora internet radio and stitcher smartradio as well as available sirius/xm satellite radio. externally, the 2013 enclave is recognizably updated. A larger, more pronounced buick waterfall grille delivers clear brand identification, while body-color rocker moldings and front and rear fascias communicate the enclave's premium character. These are further accented by tasteful chrome highlighting. This is a difficult balance to achieve, but the enclave has done it nicely. mechanically, the excellent enclave 6-speed hydramatic automatic transmission is carried over from the previous year, as is the fine v6 engine, delivering decent fuel mileage for this very large package, at 17/23 mpg city/highway in front-wheel-drive form. the key to any luxury crossover, however, is packaging, and the 2013 enclave leads its class by providing more cargo space than any of the competition. It delivers more third-row legroom than the rest, and it features a brilliant second-row sliding seat provision that makes third-row entry simple and convenient. and while enclave passengers are onboard, safety is paramount. In 2011, this buick earned national highway traffic administration's highest five-star overall vehicle safety score and was named a top safety pick by the insurance institute for highway safety. The new enclave is equipped with all of the same mandatory airbag protections, but it features, with chevrolet traverse and gmc acadia, something no other vehicle in the world can claim. Its industry-first front center airbag inflates from the inboard side of the driver's seat, protecting the driver and front-seat passenger from impacting each other during a severe side impact. This great idea will surely find its way into other large cars as soon as is feasible. simply put, the buick enclave is the complete package. Seating seven (or eight, with center bench at no extra cost), the american buying public has enthusiastically embraced this large and welcoming vehicle. With volumes of space, a crisp and newly freshened interior, and highway performance and agility that belie its considerable weight and mass, this is a full-size crossover family sport-utility vehicle to be taken very seriously. Better still, it boasts better cruising range than acura mdx, volvo xc90 and mercedes-benz r350. Small wonder it's buick's best-selling model. lineupthe 2013 buick enclave is offered in one model with three trim package levels. Each is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive 2,000). Minivans perform valuable family functions, to be sure, and the enclave matches these functions, but while doing so, this buick has a sense of style and flash that sets it apart. An elegant blend of stitched leather, brightly colored instrumentation and high-quality switchgear, the driving position of the enclave is something special. The forms on the dash board are sculpted boldly, creating what buick's chief stylist calls a distinctive dwelling. Premium materials are blended with lots of wood, black controls, understated tinted chrome and large elements like a full-color, easy-to-use touchscreen navigation package. This doubles as a rearview camera with a cross-traffic alert. yet in gushing over these stylish controls, one of the oddities of this buick is that it foregoes the proximity key/push-button start system so adamantly present in its competitors. Yet a relative inconvenience it is. We soldiered bravely on, turning the key slavishly and cursing cruel fortune each time. Analog speedometer, tachometer (with no redline; current electronics preclude over-revving), water temperature, fuel level and ammeter. The leather-covered steering wheel contains the usual audio and phone controls on the righthand spoke, cruise control on the lefthand spoke. They worked conveniently and were not accidentally brushed during normal use. the center stack was ergonomically self-explanatory, which cannot be said for the enclave's direct rivals from offshore. Dual climate control, rear wiper, onstar and seat heater/cooler controls were straightforward, as was the traction control on/off and the trunk release. A forward power take-off plug and two cupholders were located next to the conventional automatic shifter, which, incidentally, had no manual-shift provision. It's a foot longer than the ford edge crossover, a few inches shorter than the dodge durango suv and about eight inches shorter than the chevy traverse. The amber indicators sweep back like narrow wings atop tidy main projector beams. The plastic grille is gray on the base explorer, body-colored on the xlt and satin-chrome on the limited. The hood looks short from the side, but long when looking straight down it. It's got two parallel humps and a scoop in the center. Rear taillights are led, and also look good. the window outline is clean, bold and symmetrical, with blackened a-, b-, and d-pillars, and body-colored c-pillars that slant down and back and impart forward motion to the vehicle. The fender flares are inspired by the mustang and body sides follow the lines of the taurus. The three-bar grille strikes resemble those of the range rover, which was once-upon-a-time a member of the ford family. wheels are 17-inch steel with plastic covers on the base explorer, 10-spoke 18-inch painted aluminum on the xlt, and 20-inch painted aluminum with spokes like flower petals on the limited. The optional 20-inch polished aluminum wheels have spokes like shriveling flower petals or crab pincers, and don't do justice to the car. interiorfit and finish inside the explorer is excellent, and we particularly like the limited's leather seats. the front seats sit up high, which is good because the hood looks long from the driver's seat. The slanted center stack has a clean design and uses stylish satin-finish trim materials. The doors have metal speaker grilles, and curve into the dash panel. There's a big glovebox with a shelf, leather grab handles and armrests on explorers with leather interior, and long door pockets with space for a bottle. one reason we like the base model is its conventional gauges, relatively simple 4. 2-inch lcd screen at the top of the center stack, and familiar mechanical knobs below. The base explorer doesn't come with the myfordtouch driver connect technology, and neither does the xlt, unless it's chosen as an option. cars equipped with myfordtouch have two driver-configurable lcd screens in front of the driver on either side a big speedometer, and an 8-inch color touch screen at the top of the center stack.
